A flexible video and media player that supports skins and Winamp plugins.
The Core Media Player is a music and video player which was popular in the mid-2000s and though it's faded in popularity, still has a loyal following.
The media player reminds us of Winamp for many reasons, not least of which is the fact it can be skinned and supports many Winamp plugins. In terms of settings and setup, The Core Media Player is also very similar to Winamp but the underlying code is certainly different.
Using The Core Media Player isn't difficult and the controls are exactly what you would expect with support for PLS playlists and the usual Play, Pause, Stop, Next and Previous buttons.
This media player can support all of the major audio and video formats without a hitch and can also load DVD video discs without additional filters, plug-ins or extensions. Playing MP4, MP3, MPEG, AVI and QuickTime media was not an issue.
For visualizations, TCMP comes with some lovely effects that can be activated by downloading Winamp Visualization plugins in the VIS format. They work for both video and audio file playback.
All in all, The Core Media Player is definitely a keeper and a great media player even though its hay day has passed. Combine that with some awesome Winamp visualizations and audio plug-ins and you've got yourself a really stable and enjoyable media player with TCMP.
